Francis John Dashnaw, Jr

Francis John Dashnaw, Jr., 70, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024 at his home in Cherryville, NC.

Born in Buffalo, NY on October 17, 1953 he was the son of the late Francis John Dashnaw, Sr and Mary Ellen Eberhardt Dashnaw. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Michelle Leanne Dashnaw Rehm.

At 19, Frank enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country for 22 years, ultimately retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant.

He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University and enjoyed a distinguished 23-year career as a flight instructor with American Airlines. He took great pride in mentoring the next generation of pilots, finding joy and fulfillment in their success.

Deeply involved in the Cleveland County Republican Party, Frank held multiple roles and served in numerous capacities. In 2023 he was honored as the GOP Republican of the Year.

Frank will be remembered for his love for family, country, and a variety of hobbies such as gardening, camping, fishing, rafting, and martial arts. He also achieved a Brown Belt in Aikido, a testament to his dedication and discipline.

Frank is survived by his wife Lucinda Martinez Dashnaw, two sons, Johnathan Michael Dashnaw (Gaynor San Juan) and David William Dashnaw, as well as, seven grandchildren, Eric Luis Dashnaw, Angelo Cleofe Dashnaw, Alexis Michelle Rehm, Amberlynn Michelle Dashnaw, Ashlynn May Dashnaw, Angelynn Kay Dashnaw, Arylynn Leanne Dashnaw. Also left to cherish his memory are his three sisters, Elizabeth Gilcrease, Patti Norcross (Les), Judy Barrier (George) and brother James Dashnaw.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Friday, September 6, 2024 at The Chapel of Christ in Shelby 413 W. Marion St. Shelby, NC 28150 with Rev. Tim Ware officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
