Garland Floyd Butler

Garland Floyd Butler, 69, of Shelby, NC passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023 at his home in Shelby.

Born in Rockingham, NC on March 13, 1954, he was the son of the late Floyd J. Butler and Beatrice G. Hardin Butler. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters Sheila Spurling, Libby Greene and brother Darrell Butler. Garland is also predeceased in death by his mother-in-law Joyce Smith. Garland was a longtime member of New Bethel Church of Shelby. He will be remembered for his love for family, his K-9 companions Maggie and Dub, the Washington Redskins, the Boston Red Socks and Rolling Stones.

Garland is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rebecca Smith Butler and brother, Keith Butler (Gail) of Shelby, N.C., as well as his children; Ian Butler, Jason Butler, Jade Owens (Jason), Ansley Vaughan (Casey), Daryl Le Charpentier (Adam) and Andrea Blanton (Randy), all of Shelby, NC. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren who knew him as Paw Paw G - Funk; Caitlyn Greene (Dustin), McKala Butler, Peyton Hyatt, Riece Endicott, Bea Butler, Logan Butler, Jagger Endicott, Julianna Vaughan, Juno Charpentier, Brayden Vaughan, Bodie Charpentier, as well as two great grandchildren who knew him as, Jax Greene and Cam Hyatt.

Garland is also survived by his father-in-law, Bobby Smith, brother-in-law Gene Smith (Barbara) and many special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 29, 2023 at New Bethel Church of Shelby with Rev. Mark Patchett officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Cemetery.
