George Edward Brittain, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Hospice Wendover in Shelby, NC.

Born in Cleveland County on June 26, 1939, he was the son of the late Lennie Hazel Brittain and Sallie Ramsey Brittain.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Bert Brittain and Lora Brittain Lawrence, as well as his siblings, Ted Brittain, Jackie Hamrick, Kay Lail, and Jimmy Brittain.

George was a lifelong member and trustee of Lafayette Street Church in Shelby, NC, where he was an active member of the Bykota Sunday School Class. He was also a Mason and a proud member of Camp Call Lodge #534 A.F. & A.M.

George is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Mary Ruth Powell Brittain; his son, Bradley Brittain and wife Sandra of Lawndale; and three cherished grandchildren, Jason Brittain wife Ashley of Greenville, SC, Jennifer Brittain of Lawndale, NC, and Madelyne Lawrence of Salisbury, NC. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Brylan Brittain and Layla Brittain.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Lafayette Street Church in Shelby, NC. Burial will take place privately at Cleveland Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in George's memory to an organization of the donor's choice.
