HarvestWorks, located at 891 North Post Road in Shelby, now has a full time cafe and bakery.   Monday through Friday, beginning at 8am, the cafe serves up a delicious homemade livermush biscuit or cinnamon bun with coffee for just $2.00. Other breakfast specials are also available. Beginning at 12 noon until 2pm, the cafe offers a featured hot lunch for $5.00, or a chef salad or 3-salad plate for $6.00. The homemade soup of the day is always a favorite and so is the turkey or ham and cheese sub.  Meanwhile, the smell of fresh baked breads and speciality loaves permeate the air. Cookies, cinnamon rolls, large cupcakes, goodie bars, pecan sticky buns, homemade pies (whole or by the slice), cheesecake, quick breads, yeast breads and dinner breads fill the show cases and shelves. The pumpkin-cranberry loaf is a signature quick bread and very popular. A new item is the buttermilk-blueberry loaf. The cafe and bakery came about when a Mennonite raised baker from Ohio fell in love with the HarvestWorks program and the kids. Her name is Louise Dowell and she brings years of experience in homemade goodness with her. Louise lovingly teaches the HarvestWorks youngsters how to bake with hands on training. It’s all good and it’s all for a good cause. The cafe and bakery is best experienced from the inside where you can enjoy the sights and smells of real homemade goodness.  However, if you can’t make it in, HarvestWorks Cafe and Bakery also delivers.  Just call 704-487-7777.
