Cherryville - Mr. Heyward Ray Grigg, 80, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.

Mr. Grigg was born on December 14, 1944 in Cleveland County, NC a son of the late Burgan L. Grigg and Elizabeth Wood Grigg. He was retired from Celanese in Shelby and after his retirement worked for Ferguson Hardware in Cherryville and also enjoyed playing golf with his friends. Mr. Grigg was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Cherryville where he was a member of the Lutheran Men in Mission and was also in the Open Door Sunday School class.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Grigg; a sister, Evelyn Newton and four brothers, Garland, Boyd, Billy and Hugh.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ella Costner Grigg of the home; a son, Shane Grigg (Kathryn Shaw) of Belmont; a grandson, Mason Dennis and a brother Carmie Grigg of Shelby. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:45PM to 1:45PM on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cherryville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. G. Scott Homesley officiating.

Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
