Israel J. Candelaria Lazo, 77, of Shelby, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

He was born on June 3, 1947, in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, to the late Jesus Candelaria and Nieves Lazo Candelaria.

In addition to his parents, Israel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce Ann Candelaria brothers, Eduardo Candelaria Lazo and Pedro J. Candelaria Lazo of Cuba and stepsons Robert and Rickie Callahan

Israel leaves behind a loving family to honor his memory, including his daughter, Nieves Candelaria, and her husband, Cristian A. Alvarado, of Shelby, NC, daughter, Niurka Candelaria (husband Ivan Meneses), of Havana, Cuba, his sisters, Maria C. Matheson, Dora Cilgeski, and Emelia Longoria, his brothers, Luis Alberto Candelaria and Antonio D. Candelaria. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Ivania, Ivaniel, and Alain, as well as two great-grandchildren.

Israel's memory will also be treasured by his stepsons, Dennis Callahan (wife Angela), Scottie Callahan (wife Darlene), Rabe Callahan; stepdaughter, Debbie Smiley; and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He will be remembered for his warmth, love for his family, and the many lives he touched throughout his years.

A funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, October 21, 2024 in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with Pastor William Portillo officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will be held following the service.
