Jack Barrett

If you ever needed a floor covered or a warm hug that felt like home, Jack Barrett was your man. On Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the age of 86, Jack passed away peacefully at his home in Kings Mountain, surrounded by the family he cherished.

Born and raised in Cleveland County, Jack spent his childhood on the family farm, where he learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and the art of storytelling--lessons he carried throughout his life. He was a steadfast Atlanta Braves fan, cheering them on through thick and thin (and sometimes questioning their bullpen decisions). In 1967, Jack put his entrepreneurial spirit to work and founded Barrett's Floor Covering, where he built a reputation for dedication, craftsmanship, and an uncanny ability to measure a room by sight. His handiwork graced homes across the region, and his work ethic set the bar high for anyone who had the pleasure of working alongside him.

Jack was a man of deep love and unwavering loyalty, especially when it came to his wife and angel, Margherita "Margo" Barrett. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, family, and the occasional heated debate over baseball stats. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his children: Daniel Eli Barrett (& Stephanie Barrett), Terry Barrett, Stan Barrett, and Angie Barrett. His grandson Jensen Barrett and step-son Justin Spargo will carry forward his humor and heart, while his grandchildren Matthew Barrett, Heather Byrd, Josh Barrett, and Lillian Barrett will always have stories to tell of their wise and witty granddad.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Wray Graham Barrett and Irene Elizabeth McMurray Barrett, as well as his sister Libby Herndon. He is also survived by his siblings, Tommy Barrett and Wanda Jones, who will surely keep his memory alive with the same spirited stories that made Jack such a joy to be around.

Though he may no longer be here to share his quick wit, warm smile, or expert flooring advice, Jack's legacy lives on in the laughter of his family, the pride of a well-laid floor, and every Braves game that's watched with a little too much passion.
Rest easy, Jack--you've rounded third and headed for home.
