James Edward Sweezy

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Edward Sweezy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the community. James, who peacefully departed this world at the age of 85, leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.


James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Phyllis. Together, they built a life filled with love and devotion, and their memories will forever remain etched in the hearts of their family and friends. Also, his parents, Press and Zella Sweezy and his two brothers; Eugene Sweezy and Charles Sweezy.


James is survived by his loving son, David Sweezy, and his wife Karen, and his cherished daughter, Dianna Bridges, and her husband Wayne. He was a pillar of strength and wisdom for his family, and his guidance will be greatly missed.


As a grandfather, James was very proud of his grandchildren: Jason Bridges and wife Lauren, Matt Bridges and wife Ramey, Brandon Bridges and wife Casey, Josh Sweezy and wife Brandi, Jordan Sweezy, and Melissa Sweezy. He adored each one of them and took pride in being a part of their lives.


James was also blessed with great-grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to his later years: Kinsley Bridges, Keegan Bridges, Haydin Bridges, Peyton Bridges, Lottie James Bridges, Tad Bridges, Bexley Bridges, Elliott Bridges, and Emersyn Bridges. Each of them held a special place in his heart.


Throughout his professional life, James dedicated an impressive 48 years of service to Southco Industries. As a master steel fabricator, he displayed exceptional skill and craftsmanship. Moreover, James was known for his passion for kart racing, and his innovative spirit and championship achievements made a lasting impact on the racing community.


Beyond his career, James found solace in the simple joys of life. He cherished spending time with his family, working on his farm, and following the excitement of NASCAR races. His loyal companion, Sadie, his beloved dog, shared in these cherished moments and brought comfort to his heart.


A memorial service to honor James Sweezy's life will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Beulah Stony Point Community Church. The family will be gathered in the church's pavilion from 10-10:50 for family and friends to pay their respects, share cherished memories, and find comfort in the presence of one another.
