James Garver Deal, Sr., 79, of Royster Road, Shelby, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023 at Atrium Health - Pineville.

Born in Caldwell County, on January 21, 1944, he was a son of the late William Carl Deal and Hettie Garver Deal. He was retired from road construction and was a member of Fallston Baptist Church. He also served in the US Army, stationed in Korea, during the Vietnam War.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Billy Deal.

He is survived by his son, James "Jimmy" G. Deal, Jr. of Shelby; a daughter, Lisa Deal Humphries of Shelby; a granddaughter, Kaylee Hamrick of Shelby; sister-in-law, Nancy Deal of Lenior; nephew Carl Deal of Georgia; and Rachel Deal of Lenior.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with the with the Rev Dylan Melton and Dr. Wade Dellinger officiating. The family will great friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
