James Henry Oliver, 92, died Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at Caromont Health.

A Cleveland County native he was the son of the late Glenn and Bessie Oliver. Henry was a dedicated deacon and 60-year member of Bethel Baptist Church; he had a great love for his church and his church family. He was an avid deer hunter, outdoorsman, loved working in his garden and the yard, but most of all he loved his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Teresa Oliver; sister. Vickie Rice; and brothers, Lawrence Oliver and Dean Oliver. Henry is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley Hughes Oliver; daughter, Cindy Reynolds and husband Rick of Rock Hill, SC and Sondra Lovelace and husband Frank Davis of Kings Mountain; sisters, Ruby Ledford of Lawndale, Clara Crawford of Kings Mountain, and Evelene Thompson of Kings Mountain; brothers, Jerry Oliver of Kings Mountain and David Oliver and wife Annie of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Crystal Adams (Mitchell), Michael Lovelace II (Dawn), Freddie Lovelace, Chris Reynolds (Heather), and Steven Reynolds (Chelsea); great-grandchildren, Elijah, Jacob, Isaac, Ellie-May, Oliver, Avery, Channing, Bree, Michael III, and Cody; sister-in-law, Jeanette Oliver; and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 4:00PM Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Sims officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church starting at 2:30PM. Burial will take place at 1:00PM Monday, October 14,2024 at Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Bethel Baptist Church.
