James "Jim" Olin Hendrick, 82, passed away Monday December 25, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Cleveland County on January 4, 1941, he was the son of the late James Earl Hendrick and Ruth Olin Cabaniss Hendrick.

Jim completed his high school education at Shelby High School and furthered his academic journey at Lenoir-Rhyne University, earning a B.S. Degree. Throughout his professional life, Jim made significant contributions to the banking industry and served as a tax assessor. Fondly remembered for his deep devotion to family and his love for outdoor activities, Jim had a particular passion for fishing and hunting.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Blanton Hendrick, daughter Callie Hendrick Ashely (Dan), Chris Hendrick (Paige) as well as his grandchildren, Olivia Ashley, Drew Ashley and Cannon Abernethy (fiancé Brandon Wyont.) Also left to cherish his memory is his great grandchild, Riley Bailes.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, December 29, 2023 at Zion Baptist Church in Shelby with Rev. Randy Bridges officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 AM and other times at the home of Mrs. Betty Hendrick. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
