James Stephen Mayhew, 82, passed away on October 17, 2024 at his home in Shelby, NC, surrounded by his loving family.

James was born on September 30, 1942 in Cleveland, County, NC to parents Benjamin Ira and Girtle Lorene Wood Mayhew. In addition to his parents, James was a preceded in death by his two brothers, Don Mayhew, Jack Mayhew, two grandchildren, Stephanie Mayhew and Dre Harper and one sister, Carolyn McSwain.

James is survived by his spouse Mary Mayhew; four sons, Steve Mayhew and spouse Tammy, Randy Mayhew, Kevin Philbeck and girlfriend Bobbie, Toby Philbeck and spouse Jennifer; three daughters, Deborah Beaver, Kim Powell, and Karen Morton; two sisters, Linda Erby, and Cathy Van Buren and spouse David; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren his dog baby as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, with Rev. Richard Shores officiating. Burial will follow at Lattimore Baptist Church Cemetery. The family of James will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
