Jewel Hudson

Jewel Hudson was born July 10, 1934 to the late William Ellis Hudson and Nettie Yoder Hudson and passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Mission Hospital, Asheville.

She was a graduate of George Hildebrand High School and of Lenoir Rhyne University. Where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Special Education Certification. Jewel retired from the Burke County Public School System as a Special Education teacher. After retirement she worked for 27 years in geriatric care. Jewel was a member of the National Education Association (Retired) the Association of Educators and the Burke County Retired School Personnel where she served for 28 years as a Legislative Chair-Person. Jewel was also a former member of the Historic Burke Foundation and the Burke County Historic Museum. Jewel was very active in local politics and was the precinct chairperson for the Lower Fork District. She cared deeply for her family, friends and church family.

Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, numerous cousins and her great nephew Jason Hudson.

Jewel is survived by one brother, Kenneth Hudson and wife Brenda of Bryant, AR; nephews, Allen Hudson and wife Beth, Tim Hudson and wife, Charlotte, Rick Hudson and wife, Gaye; great nephews, Michael Hudson and wife, Maria, Wrenwick Hudson, Richard Hudson and Jack Hudson; two great great nieces, Taylor Williams and husband Greyson and Mykala Hudson and a special neighbor Helen Wilkie.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at St. Peters Methodist Church with the Rev. David Sain officiating.

The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
