Joe William Raymond McDaniel

Joe William Raymond McDaniel (85) passed away peacefully the morning of Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at his home with his devoted wife of 65 years by his side.

Joe was born September 26, 1939 to Lawson and Nellie McDaniel. He was a graduate of Mooresboro High School where he met and later married Sarah Ruth Humphries (Ruth) in 1959. Joe was a machine operator at Jefferson Smurfit Corporation and retired after 34 years. His skill as a mechanic was often used to assist family, neighbors and friends. Joe was a child of the living Savior; always smiling. He enjoyed singing gospel music, hunting, fishing, carpentry, traveling and spending time with his family whom he cherished.


Joe was a lifetime member of Drury Dobbins Baptist Church where he faithfully served the Lord in many capacities including deacon. He was known for his bass voice and was a 20-year member of The Foothills Community Choir which he joined in 2006 remaining a faithful member who loved to sing of God's love. Joe leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to God and family. Celebrating his life includes his wife, Ruth of 65 years; children, Sarah Frances McDaniel, William Raymond McDaniel, and Carmen McDaniel Butler (Tim); 4 grandchildren, Bronson Chadwick (Emily), Nathan Butler, Whitney Hardin (Steven), Lawson Butler (Carley); 6 great-grandchildren, Xzavier and Zander Butler, Alicia and Logan Hardin, and Ryder and Mylee Butler; a loving sister, Raye McDaniel Hiney, nephews, nieces, many friends and family, and his loyal dog, Barney.


Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Lawson and Nellie McDaniel, daughter, Wendy and son-in-law Bryan Neville; 2 sisters, Sarah Simmons and Edna Brackett.


A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2025 at the Drury Dobbins Tabernacle 3523 Dobbins Church Road, Ellenboro. Joe's family will have a time of fellowship with friends and family at 12:30pm with the service beginning at 2:00pm and graveside afterward in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's memory can be made to Drury Dobbins Baptist Church building fund.
