John Clyde Mitchem, III, 69, of Bessemer City, passed away at Atrium Cleveland on June 1, 2024. He was born August 20, 1954, in Gaston County, to the late John Clyde Mitchem, Jr and Betty Lou Hannah Mitchem.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, John Mitchem, IV; and brother, Chris Mitchem.

John was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He always loved to have a garden where he grew a variety of vegetables and raised cattle. John worked at Harris Teeter for 45 years before he retired. He knew everything about produce, he even knew things that would surprise you because most people didn't know about produce. John adored his family, especially his grandkids, and he will be greatly missed by everyone. He loved Chevrolets and that was what he owned. He liked to farm and ride tractors.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 50 years, Laura "Ann" Owens Mitchem; daughter, Heather Mitchem (Joshua Weatherford); brothers, Kenny Mitchem (Tammie), Curtis Mitchem (Emily); grandchildren, Hannah, Luke John, and Kaylee; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home on Friday, June 7, 2024.

John's Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Tommy Hovis officiating.

Interment will follow at Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
