Johnny E. Presson

Johnny E. Presson, 88, passed away on November 5, 2024, at Homestead Hills in Winston-Salem, NC.

Johnny dedicated his career to public education, serving in numerous positions across several locations. He retired with over 30 years of service, having held roles as a high school teacher, coach, elementary and high school principal, and administrator with Guilford County and Scotland County School Systems. His career culminated with his position as Superintendent of Shelby City Schools.

Following his retirement from education, Johnny founded Retirement Alternatives, Inc., providing retirement planning, insurance, and investment services for individuals and businesses.

Johnny was a past president of the Shelby Rotary Club, past chairman of the Cleveland County Chamber, and a life member of The Salvation Army Advisory Board.

He was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he served in many roles over the years.

Johnny earned his BS degree from Wake Forest University, his MA from Appalachian State University, and his Doctorate in Education from UNC-Greensboro. A devoted Wake Forest Deacon Club member, he was a lifelong supporter of Wake Forest athletics and continued cheering for the Shelby Golden Lions into his retirement.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Inez Lytle Presson, whom he married on November 25, 1965, and his brother, Steve Presson of Charlotte. He was predeceased by his parents, John H. and Margie G. Presson, his sister, Billie Lorraine Trull, and two brothers, Eddie L. Presson and James H. Presson.

One of Johnny's lifelong passions was rose gardening, which brought him peace and joy as he shared his blooms with his community. In recent years, he took great pleasure in connecting with nieces and nephews through the digital age.

Memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or The Salvation Army.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM on Sunday, November 17, 2024, in the sanctuary of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, followed by a memorial service at 3:30 PM. Interment will be held immediately following the service in the church columbarium.
