Joyce W. Smith, 89, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at TerraBella of Shelby, NC.

Born in Gaston County on April 26, 1934 she was the daughter of the late Rudolph Willard Wilson and Lavada Samantha McGinnis In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her brothers Bill Wilson, "B.C." Wilson and sisters Jean Anderson, Sybile Wilson, Doris Devon and Rebecca Wilson.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Bobby Smith, son Gene Smith (Barbara) of Hartwell, Georgia, daughter Rebecca Butler (Garland) of Shelby, brother Ronnie Wilson (Mary) of Kings Mountain, as well as, her grandchildren, Joshua Smith (Kristine) of Bowersville, GA, Morgan Akin (Brandt) of Lavonia, GA, Ansley Vaughan (Casey) of Shelby and Andrea Blanton (Randy) of Shelby. Also left to cherish her memory are her great grandchildren, Luke, Amelia Kate, Truitt, Will, Eli, Julianna, Brayden, as well as, four step grandchildren, Ian Butler, Jason Butler, Jade Butler Owens, Daryl Le Charpentier and nine step great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday, December 21 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 22, 2023 at New Bethel Church in Shelby with Rev. Mark Patchett officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sunset Cemetery.
