Kay and Ken Hinson

Mrs. Kay Frances Hinson, 78, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Atrium Health - Cleveland in Shelby. Her husband of 56 years, Kenneth Wayne "Ken" Hinson, passed away just two days later on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.

Kay was born on January 23, 1945 in Selma, Alabama a daughter of the late Loran Daniel "L.D." Wallace and Virginia Frances Shytle Wallace. She was retired from Cleveland County Schools and taught at Marion Elementary and Crest Middle Schools. During her career she was a classroom teacher and a reading specialist. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota-Sigma, National Teachers Sorority, which she was very proud of. Kay was a true friend and built relationships with her college friends, who became like family. She maintained a very close relationship to these friends for the rest of her life.

In addition to her parents Kay was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Thomas Wallace.

Ken was born on August 11, 1943 in Lynchburg, VA a son of the late Thaddeus Wayne "Thad" Hinson and Mary Elizabeth Bryant Hinson. He was retired as a mechanic and a financial professional. Ken was a member of Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F. & A.M. and served as a certified lecturer. He was also an honorary member of Cleveland Lodge #202 and Fairview Lodge #339. He was a member and past venerable master of the Lodge of Perfection of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Charlotte and was bestowed the honor of the 33rd degree due to his outstanding service to the brotherhood; an honor which Ken was very proud of. Ken also had a great love for bluegrass music and playing instruments.

Survivors include a niece, Amber Wallace Blackwell and husband, Steven of Beaufort, NC; a nephew, Vince Wallace and wife Jessica; a great niece and nephew, Vera and Stone Wallace.

Graveside services for Kay and Ken will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Cleveland Memorial Park in Shelby with Rev. Bill Troutman officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at the home of Kay and Ken, 1421 Deborah Circle, Shelby, NC 28150.

Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr. Shelby, NC 28150.
