"Maida" Greene Scruggs, 99, of Boiling Springs, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 21, 2024.
She was born in Cleveland County on April 15, 1925, to the late Hal Bingham Greene and the late Ola Maye Crabtree Greene.
Maida was the devoted wife of 66 years to the late James Horace Scruggs, who preceded her in death in 2007. Together they built a beautiful life with two loving sons, the late James Hal Scruggs, and the late Horace Elam Scruggs. She was a lifelong member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church, where she enjoyed serving the Lord in many capacities. She enjoyed reading, crafting, drawing, and tapping her toes to bluegrass music, as Horace played his guitar during the many jam sessions held at their home. She took pride in her life as a homemaker, devoting her time to loving and teaching her grandchildren how to read, write, and pray. Her family will cherish her memory as a true matriarch and prayer warrior, who loved unconditionally and lifted each member's name in prayer each day.
In addition to two precious daughters-in-law, Susan Scruggs and Noy Scruggs, Maida is survived by 8 grandchildren; Paula Richards (Billy) of Gaffney, SC; Mark Scruggs (Amy) of Cherryville, NC; Greg Kennedy of Orlando, FL; Leanne Russ of Shelby; Emmett Scruggs, Amanda McBrayer (late Brad), Amelia LaNave (Brandon), all of Mooresboro, NC; and Michael Scruggs (Jessica) of Boiling Springs, NC; 16 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great- grandchildren; a sister, Carolina Hamrick (Phillip)of Apex, NC; and a host of special nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Keith Dixon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery.
