Marie Thomas Poston departed this life for her eternal home on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at home in Shelby, NC.

She was born on August 13, 1945, in Rutherford County, NC to the late Roy and RosaBell Wright-Thomas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, sisters, and her two sons, Brian Poston and Jacques Poston.

Marie was a member of Jerusalem C.F. Church of God in Shelby, NC and was a life-long faithful member. At church, she was very active and supportive in various auxiliaries and committees. She served on the Jerusalem Choir, Missionary Department, Pastor's Aide Committee, the Usher Board, and the Sunday School Committee. In her earlier years she was known for baking some of the best cakes, including red velvet. Her work included textiles. She was a dedicated mother and wife. She was referred to as "MawMaw" by all of her grandkids. Most of all, she was a woman of God and loved to praise and worship.

She leaves cherished memories to her husband of 58 years, James Poston Jr.; her children Sandra Marie Banks (Thomas); Tony Poston (Sherrie) of; Adam "Neal" Poston (Tracy); Serena Poston-Clark; her grandchildren, Antwan Petty, Dr. Danielle Grier (Dr. Greg), Antonio Petty (Sophia), Domonique Mauney, Matthew Sanderson, Adrian Sanderson, Travon Bullock, Sierra Clark, Tavaris Clark, Corrine Sanderson Poston, Raheem Clark, Orlando Roseboro (Ashley); and her great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 1 p.m. at New Providence Full Gospel Church, 947 George Brown Road, Crouse, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
