Mary Jo McCurry Hester, 91, passed away at home surrounded by her loving and devoted family on Saturday, February 22, 2025. A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late William and Olney McCurry. Jo started her teaching career in Gaston County where she later retired from Shelby City Schools after 30 years. She was a previous member of Westview Baptist Church, and had recently became a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Earl. Jo had a love for working in her flower beds, and gardening along side Wallace.

She is preceded in death by her loving and faithful husband of 56 years, Wallace Hester. In addition to her husband and parents, baby brother, Bruce, brothers, Bill, Clifford and Don McCurry, and sisters, Catherine Mizell, and Elizabeth (Lib) Debrew.

She is survived by daughter, Barbara Digilio and husband Joe of York, SC, sister, Jane Harris of Matthews, NC, granddaughter, Holly Jo Cantrell and fiance' Doug Corson, great-grandchildren, Ryan and Morgan Rizzo all of Shelby, NC, granddaughter, Lacey Jo Tindall and husband Lane, and granddaughter, Mandy Cantrell and great-granddaughter, Destiny Cantrell all of Fallston, NC.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at New Hope Baptist Church, 2621 Blacksburg Road, Earl, NC 28038 with Rev. Russ Bradley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Interment will be immediately following the service at Sunset Cemetery.
