Norma "Faye" Spangler

Norma "Faye" Spangler, 91, of Shelby, passed away peacefully at her home with her loved ones by her side. She is the daughter of the late Rufus and Addie Crotts Sparks.

She is a 1951 graduate of Shelby High School and went on to receive a Radiology Technology degree from Duke University in 1955. She proudly worked at UNC and Duke hospitals after graduation. After marrying her husband, Carl, in 1957 she worked at Fort Benning, GA and then returned to Chapel Hill while Carl finished his education at UNC. The two moved back to Shelby to make their home and raise their family. Faye was a faithful member of Double Shoals Baptist Church in Shelby where she was the children's choir director. She participated in the Women's Club, Children's Home, and the Bridge Club.

Faye is preceded in death by her faithful husband of almost 60 years, Carl M. Spangler, Jr., son, Carl M. "Chuck" Spangler, III; siblings, Gerald Sparks, Fidelia Edney, and Amy Spangler.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Susan Duncan (Tom), Angela Anthis (Steve), son, Michael Spangler (Karen), daughter-in-law, Sabrina Spanger; 12 grandchildren, Ben and Sam (Maddie) Duncan, Bret, Carson and Addie Anthis, Matthew, Nathan, Elise, and Kate Spangler, Chip, Luke (Taylor), John-Michael Spangler, three great grandchildren, and one on the way.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Family Life Center of Double Shoals Baptist Church in Shelby. A graveside service, officiated by Dr. Brian Johnson, will follow immediately in the church cemetery.
