Peggy Gates Webb, age 92, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Brookdale Senor Living in Shelby. Peggy was born in Lincolnton, NC on January 1, 1931 and was the daughter of the late George Charles and Alma Reynolds Gates.

After graduating from Lincolnton High School Peggy entered the Shelby Hospital School of Nursing becoming a registered nurse specializing in the surgery unit.

Peggy was an avid golfer winning the Ladies Club Championship three times at the Cleveland Country Club. She was also "Miss Shelby" in 1952 going on to participate in the Miss NC pageant.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and an active member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.

Peggy is survived by her children, Ed Webb and wife Jean, Jann Pittman and husband Don; grandsons, Michael Pittman, David Webb and wife Jenny; great granddaughter, Hadley Mae Webb; brothers Jerry Gates and wife Ann and Terry Gates; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Giles E. Webb, Jr. and brother Craig Pressley Gates. She was also preceded in death by a very special friend, Dean Whisnant.

A funeral service will be Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00 in the Chapel at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory, with Rev. Perry Holloman officiating. Beginning at 10:00 AM, there will be a visitation at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the excellent care and love shown to Peggy by the entire staff at Brookdale, the Hospice staff, and to Brooke Goodwin for her many years of loving and taking care of Peggy.
