Phoebe Hunt Covington

Phoebe Hunt Covington, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Phoebe passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength.

Phoebe was a devoted wife to Jeffery Covington, who stood by her side through all of life's joys and challenges. Together for 38 years, they built a life filled with love and cherished memories. As a mother, Phoebe was a guiding light to her daughters, Lakeshia Watkins Flowers of Greensboro, NC, and Shereka Thurman of Shelby, NC. She instilled in them the values of compassion, resilience, and the importance of family.
Phoebe's heart was further filled with joy by her six grandchildren: Ja'Quan Thurman of Hickory, Ahmil Flowers of Greensboro, Jahlaya Abernathy, Sentavious Osborne, Daniyah Allen, and Messiah Briscoe of Shelby. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and cherished every moment spent with them.

Phoebe was preceded in death by her grandparents Zone & Frances Peeler and Charles &Louellar Hunt, son, Travis Watkins, and her parents, Joseph Hunt and Shirley Peeler Hunt of Lawndale, NC. She is also reunited with her brother, Michael Hunt of Hickory. Her surviving siblings are, Terry Hunt and his wife Loretta of Stone Mountain GA, Darryl Hunt of Lawndale, Joseph Victor McDowell & Susan McDowell, Mark & Sonya McDowell; sisters-in-law, Barbara Jean & Pandora Covington of Hickory, Govonia Hunt of Concord; a special cousin who was like a sister, Shirley Peeler Leslie of Lawndale , NC, along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Phoebe's life was a testament to the power of love and family. She was a beacon of strength and support to her extended family and friends, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand. Her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched with her generosity and warmth.

As we remember Phoebe today, let us celebrate the beautiful person she was and the incredible impact she had on all of us. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, reminding us to live with love, compassion, and grace.
Rest in peace, Phoebe. You will be deeply missed, but your memory will forever remain in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at First Baptist Lawndale, Lawndale, NC at 12:30 p.m. Burial will take place at Community Baptist Church in Lawndale, NC.
