Rantie Odell Bumgarner Jr.
Mr. Rantie Odell Bumgarner Jr., age 81, died Saturday July 28, 2012 at Willow Ridge in Rutherford County. Born on July 7, 1931 in Cleveland County he was the son of the late Rantie Odell and Tannie Smith Bumgarner. Rantie was a soldier till the day he died. He retired from the Army as a SFC, serving in the Vietnam Conflict and the Korean War. He received two bronze stars, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster; and the Meritorious Service Medal. He was a member of the VFW, AMVETS and the American Legion Warren F. Hoyle Post 82. After retiring he worked at Shoco Industries and for the North Carolina Department of Corrections as a guard. He was also a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bumgarner is preceded in death by a wife, Beverly Holt Bumgarner; a son, Robert Bumgarner; and two brothers, Arbruth Bumgarner and Ira Bumgarner.

Mr. Bumgarner is survived by a son Randy Bumgarner and wife Pam of Mooresboro; a daughter, Theresa Brill of Boiling Springs; a sister, Esther Campbell of California; six grandchildren, Chad Lowery, Carissa Thornburg, Rodney Callahan, Scottie Bumgarner, Wendy Burnham, and Lisa Bumgarner; and eleven great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held on Tuesday July 31, 2012 at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby with Rev. Dr. Thomas Steagald officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9:30 til 10:30 am prior to the service and other times at the home of Theresa Brill, 101 Aaron Drive, Shelby.
