Rellie McDowell, Jr.

On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, Rellie McDowell, Jr. 73, transitioned from his earthly vessel to his eternal one with his loving wife and son by his side.

He was born June 16, 1950 to the late Rellie McDowell, Sr. and Eva Kee McDowell in Cleveland County. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Elouise Anderson, Eliminor McDowell, and Jessie Whitener. Also, a sister-in-law Penny Lockhart Canty, and father-in-law Ray Lockhart, Sr.

Upon graduating from Shelby High School in 1972, he enlisted in the United States Navy from 1972 until 1976. After his served time, he commenced working for Cleveland Regional Medical Center as an Environmental Technician. After his retirement, he continued provision for his family through becoming a crossing guard, and doing various lawn services. He always began his mornings at Gasland for a cup of coffee and conversations with the attendants on duty.

Those whom Rellie leaves to cherish fond memories of his life are his beloved wife of forty-one years, Mrs. Linda Lockhart McDowell; sons Rellie (DJ) McDowell of the home, and Rayshun McDowell (Latoya), Charlotte, N.C. Three grandchildren: Bre'Asia Cumberlander, Rayshun McDowell Jr. and Trayvon Shelton. His mother-in-law Laura H. Lockhart, one brother-in-law, Pastor Ray Lockhart, Jr. (Dr. Linda), and a sister-in-law, Colrosee Lockhart Russell (Marcus, Sr.) all of Shelby, N.C.

Rellie was a hard-worker who prided himself in providing for his wife and sons. We know the days will be long, and the nights will be longer, however, we will stand on the promises of God that He will never leave nor forsake His children. Rest well my Love.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Maple Springs Baptist Church at 2 p.m., and receiving of family and friends will be from 1:30 pm until 2 p.m. The family is receiving family and friends at TR Harris Drive, Apt 4A.
