Rev. James "Harold" Camp

Rev. James "Harold" Camp, 82, was welcomed home by his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.

Harold was born on July 25, 1941 to the late Margaret Jackson Camp and J.Y. Camp of Shelby. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his brother, Joel S. Camp. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Camp; three children and their spouses, Patricia Flynn and husband Ray Flynn of Charlotte, Michael Camp and Leslie Camp of Gastonia and Todd Camp and Megan Pinkston-Camp of East Greenwich, RI. Harold leaves seven grandchildren, Jordan Camp and wife Afton of Lincolnton, Justin Camp of Shelby, Haley Camp of Vancouver, Canada, Emily Flynn of Charlotte and Elijah, Oliver and Delilah Camp of East Greenwich, RI. Harold also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Hayden Romans, Caleb Camp and Abby Camp of Lincolnton. Harold loved making music and singing, and learned to play the guitar as a child. He also enjoyed collecting model cars and woodworking. Harold and Barbara were married on December 23, 1961. They made their home and raised their family in Shelby, NC. Harold felt the call on his heart and was ordained into the ministry in 1968. He was the full-time pastor at the Family Praise and Worship Center in Shelby and was employed by the Eaton Corporation for 23 years until his retirement from both. His dedication to spreading the Word of God led him and Barbara to establish a church in Morganton and a Mission in Valdese. Due to his ministries, many churches were formed, families were fed and souls were saved. The family will receive friends 10:30-12:00 P.M. Friday, December 29, 2023 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 P.M. in the chapel at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Camp officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
