Richard Coleman Blanton, 82, passed away on June 14, 2024. He was born on December 7, 1941 in Shelby, NC to Joe E. Blanton and Mildred Scarborough Blanton.

He attended NC State University and went on to work as a Professional Engineer specializing in Fire Protection for over 60 years.

Richard was a Bonsai enthusiast, an NCSU Cooperative Extension Master Gardner, an avid fisherman, and a fan of a wide variety of music. Over the years, he also enjoyed training and showing his Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

Richard is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda McNeely Blanton, his brother-in-law Steve McNeely, his daughter, Ashley, and four grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and co-workers.

Richard also enjoyed many hours of watching the wildlife around his home. He requested a private memorial service, but donations in his memory can be made to Creekside Wildlife Rescue, 1635 Fallston Rd, Shelby, NC 28150.
