Robert Charles Lingerfelt, 84, of Vale, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at his residence.

Charles was born on April 24, 1942 in Lincoln County, to the late Garland Chavis Lingerfelt and Edith Shuford Lingerfelt. He was an upholster at Bassett Furniture in Conover where he worked as plant manager before his retirement. Charles was an avid farmer throughout his life. He devoted himself to raising grains and produce. Charles also enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with others. He sold his produce at local markets.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Brittain.

Charles is survived by his wife of 62 years, Merlene Lingerfelt; daughter, Angela Gambill and fiancé, Ricky Sain of Vale; son, Robert Lingerfelt and wife, Kimberly of Cherryville; four grandchildren, Caitlin Kelley and husband, Michael of Stoney Point, Taylor Grant and husband, Benjamin of Cherryville; Holden Lingerfelt and Holyn Lingerfelt both of Cherryville; two great-grandchildren, Griffin Grant and Addison Kelley and brother, Don Lingerfelt of Vale.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
