Rodney Alton Maddox

Rodney Alton Maddox, affectionally known as 'Fat', 51 of Cherryville, NC passed away on June 16, 2024, at Atrium Health Main in Charlotte NC.

He was born on April 1, 1973, in Cleveland County to Pandora Maddox and the late Ronald Edison "Shake" Bell.

Rodney joined Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church at an early age and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Rodney served as the Minister of Music and a trustee. Rodney remained faithful and active with his Hopper's Chapel family!

Rodney was a 1992 graduate of Shelby High School. He excelled as a scholar athlete on the basketball team. "He shot the rock pretty well!" He also ran track and participated in many academic clubs and organizations. After high school, he attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC where he was the spades champion and made lifelong friendships during his tenure. GO PACK!

Wendy's grew to be a large part of Rodney's life. Rodney started as a cashier and advanced to Manager where he was able to teach and train other managers at various locations including but not limited to Shelby, Gaffney, Marion, and Charlotte. He was extremely dedicated and loved his Wendy's family!

Rodney was very generous, kind, and loving to everyone that he encountered. He always had a song to sing to brighten up someone's day. He made everyone feel special with his infectious smile and bear hugs.

Rodney is survived by his loving mother, Pandora Maddox of Forest City, NC; special niece/daughter Maria (Ree) Maddox; three sisters, Shayvonne (Shay Shay) Maddox and Shandilette (Granny) Maddox of Shelby, NC, and Brandy Bell of Winston-Salem, NC; two brothers, Nicholas (Tina) Jerrod Maddox of Tallahassee, FL and Shawn Mack of Atlanta, GA; his additional nieces and nephews, Antwan Jones, Stephany Archie, Neil Maddox,Takiyah Brown, Monique Trammell, Shawn Mack, Jr., Kendall McCollough, Sr., Nyla Maddox, Mylee Maddox, Nick Maddox, II; a favorite first cousin, Nicole (Colie) Maddox; special godmother, Patricia Maddox "Aunt Trish"; the entire Maddox, Whittenburg-Gentry, McSwain, Thompson, Miller, McDowell, and Little families and a host of additional cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on June 24, 2024, at Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. Enloe Mortuary is in charge of services.
