Roger Woody

He was a family man who always put family first. A father of three amazing daughters and 'Poppy' to eight perfect grandchildren, Roger's family truly completed him. His love for his wife, Kathy, was always obvious and genuine. A 1980 graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College and CPA, he was a dedicated and hard-working employee of Atlantic Concrete Services since 1999, he retired in 2020 but continued working part-time from home. As his hobby, he built many beautiful homes over the years, but he was always most proud of his family home in Lake Lure, finished in 2008, where his family has been making memories ever since. Also known for his boating skills, Roger treasured the time he shared with all on his pontoon boat, 'Poppy's Jalopy'.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty-two wonderful years, Kathy Little Woody; three daughters, Lori Woody (Rodney Pruett), Meredith Woody Large (Tom), and Erin Woody Merritt (Edward); eight grandchildren, Blake Paterno, Sydney Paterno, Drew Paterno, Emerson Large, Anna Large, Luke Large, William Merritt, and Cullen Merritt; his brother, Bradley Woody (Brenda); and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Anna Kathryn Woody; brothers George Woody (Phyllis) and Don Woody (Sue); and sisters Lea Ledford (Bradley) and Ann Holifield.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Eastside Baptist in Shelby. The family will receive friends following the service. Inurnment with full military honors will take place at Sunset Cemetery at 1:00PM.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Roger's honor to Duke University, where he received exceptional care.
