Salvation Army store has new location

Business was brisk on the first day of operation at the new location of The Salvation Army Family Store. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the grand opening of the facility on Friday, March 18, 2016. The new location at 1661 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, is next door to Big Lots and features 7,000 square feet of space.
It took the Salvation Army three years to find a new location for the store.
"This is such an improvement over our old space," says Sergeant Les Ashby, Corps Administrator. "This new location is so big and nice and bright." It is also in a convenient location along Highway 74, which Ashby hopes will bring in lots of customers.
The store carries a wide variety of merchandise, including clothes, linens, books, electronics, furniture, baby clothes and purses.
All profits (after overhead) from the store will go towards Salvation Army programs in the local community.
"We are customer-friendly and donation-friendly," says Ashby.
The store is also looking for both volunteers and paid workers.
"We need volunteers to sort clothes and put out the merchandise," says Ashby. "We also need more people to fill paid positions at the store." Those interested can apply at the store or at the Salvation Army office, located at 311 N. Lafayette St., Shelby.
The hours for the new store are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
