Shirley Pritchard Ledford, 87, of Shelby, NC, passed away on May 30, 2023, in Charlotte, NC, after a long illness.

She was born in Shelby, NC, on January 20, 1936, to Den and Emma Poole Pritchard. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and soulmate of 41 years, Horace B. Ledford, all of her brothers and sisters: Ralph Pritchard, Wynette P. Reid, Helen P. Smith, Howard Pritchard, Ruth Pritchard, Betty P. Looney and Ben Pritchard.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Ledford Wassén (Kurt). Also surviving are in-laws, Tommy and David Ledford and Linda TerHorst. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Shelby, and recently joined First Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, just prior to her death.

Shirley was a wonderful wife, mother and mother-in-law. She loved her family dearly. She was a former employee of Northwestern Bank (now Wells Fargo) in Shelby. She volunteered at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in the Gift Shop for many years. Shirley had an eye for decorating and kept a beautiful and meticulous home. She was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed making scrumptious dishes for her family. Nothing made Shirley happier than spending time with her family. Shirley had a heart for people in need, and would often help others, anonymously, when she saw any opportunity. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11:00 am at Cleveland Memorial Park, 1225 College Avenue, Shelby, NC 28152. Reverend Harold Schwantes will officiate. The family wishes to thank special Caregivers and friends Ramona (Mona) Edwards, Cheryl Santilli and Robin Gregory for their kind and loving friendship and care.
