Stanley Mills

Stanley Mills "Pop" of Rutherfordton, NC passed away at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills Thursday, November 28th after a long battle with cancer.

Stanley was recently predeceased by his wife, Wanda Mills. He was also predeceased by his parents, Betty and Jack Mills; brothers, Bill Mills and Larry Mills; foster parents, Viola Hutchins and Ham Hutchins; step-children Chris Jury and Alan Ross.

He is survived by his children, Christie Williams, Jackie James and Regina Rhodes; (step) brother, Steve Mills; (foster) sister, Margie Reece; grandchildren, Lane Rhodes, Ayden Rhodes, Lilli James, Audrey James, Alison Ross, Ben Ross and 1 great-grandchild and another on the way. He also leaves behind his best buddy, Bo, that has been a loyal pet for over 14 years.

Stanley had a long career in textiles before his retirement. He loved dogs and cats and had many, many special pets over the years. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed joking around with friends and family. While his health allowed, you could find him taking in and working in the outdoors around his home or hanging out with his buddies at Greenhill Store. Before his illness he was also known for his homemade biscuits.

Stanley was a member of Piney Knob Baptist Church. In more recent times, he experienced a renewed revival of his faith and was looking forward to going to his eternal home.

Per his wishes Stanley will be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 8th, 2024 at Piney Knob Baptist Church, 1534 Piney Knob Road, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 with Casey Stockton officiating. Receiving of friends will be held one hour prior to service.

We would like to thank Piney Knob and their pastor for the love and support shown to Stanley over the past year.
