Steve Russell Hudson, 78, of Shelby, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on May 25, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Born in Cleveland County on June 4, 1945, son of the late Russell Ray Hudson and Lizzie Davis Hudson. He was a 1963 graduate of Burns-Fallston High School and worked most of his life in the textile industry in sales and customer service. Upon retiring from textiles, he worked several years in the staffing industry.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Glenda Leonhardt Hudson, three children, Ronda Branch (Brian) of Polkville, Glen Hudson (Mitzi) of Shelby, and Maria Hudson- Davis (Jeff) of Charlotte; a brother Rick Hudson (Cecelia) of Boiling Springs, NC and four grandchildren - Kellin McAbee, Russ Branch (Katy), Hiley Davis and Chloe Davis. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Dale Hudson.
Steve truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with friends and family, spending time with his grandchildren, and watching TV. Steve was an avid golfer having been a member of Pine Grove Golf Club and Deer Brook Golf Club. He held the record for the most Club Championship wins at Pine Grove. He had a love for baseball spending many hours coaching, playing and watching the game. He was a beacon of strength and guidance to all who knew him. His gentle demeanor and warm smile brought comfort to those around him, and his compassionate spirit touched the lives of many. He had an infectious laugh, quick wit and a generous spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand. His presence illuminated the lives of those fortunate enough to know him and his absence will be deeply felt by all who loved him.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Friendship Methodist Church 111 Friendship Drive Fallston, NC with the Rev. Richard Jelley officiating. Followed by a time of reflection and remembrance from 2:00 to 4:00 pm (drop-in) at Baker Buffalo Creek Vineyard 3521 Fallston-Waco Road, Lawndale, NC.
