Thomas "Tommy" Walter Barnes, 83, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center.

Born in Rock Hill, SC, on April 21, 1941, he was the son of the late John Thomas Barnes and Alma Elizabeth Reid Barnes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Barnes.

Tommy graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army Reserves for more than seven years. He was a longtime member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at Westview Baptist Church and a devoted Carolina Gamecocks fan.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife of more than 59 years, Carol Cunningham Barnes; his daughters, Lynn Ferree (Chris) and Leslie Brooks (Matthew); and his five grandchildren: Bryson Ferree (Amanda), Sydney Ferree, Jordan Ferree, Thomas Brooks (Kendall), and Madelyn Brooks. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Koen Ferree, Freyja Ferree, and Iris Ferree; his brother, John Reid Barnes (Eloise); and his sister, Carole Gearhart.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Westview Baptist Church, with Dr. Rick Bowling and Dr. Tracy Jessup officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Westview Baptist Church, 500 Melody Lane, Shelby, NC 28152.
