William Dorsey Buckalew Jr., 82, of Shelby NC, son of the late William Dorsey Buckalew and Betty Hillhouse Smellie Buckalew, member of Elizabeth Baptist Church Shelby NC, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 24, 2024.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church, Shelby, NC. Bill's family will receive friends from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Interment will follow on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA at 1 p.m.

Born in Fulton County, GA, he married Linda Smith in August, 1964. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and minister. He graduated from McEachern High School in Atlanta GA; Emory University - Atlanta GA; and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary - Louisville KY. He began his career as the Business Manager at Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly in Black Mountain, NC before he was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam for 2 years. After his service in Vietnam, he became the Minister of Education and Finance at Silvertown Baptist Church in Thomaston, GA. With a move to Tucker GA, he became the Assistant Trust Officer with Fulton National Bank in Atlanta where he worked for 10 years. His career in ministry continued at Calvary Baptist, Lilburn GA; Mountain Park First Baptist, Stone Mountain GA; First Baptist, Thomaston, GA; Flat Creek Baptist, Fayetteville GA; and First Baptist, Cleveland GA.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Beth & Tim Beam of Shelby NC; son and daughter-in-law, Bill & Jenny Buckalew of Newnan GA; grandchildren Lauren Beam Williams (Michael) of Shelby NC; Jonathan Beam (Angela) of Richmond KY; Jakin Buckalew, Sadie Buckalew and Josie Buckalew of Newnan GA; brother-in-law Wayne (Glenda) Smith and sister-in-law Virginia (Terry) Hammond of Thomaston GA.
