Communities In Schools of Cleveland County is a regional partner with WSOC’s Family Focus project, School Tools, which provides needed school supplies to youth from Cleveland County Schools.  Donations are accepted at the CIS office, 215 South Washington Street, Shelby, in Young Square and donation barrels are located across our community in the businesses of partners who are committed to supporting the needs of children in Cleveland County.  Events supporting the School Tools Campaign will take place throughout the month of August.
Donation barrels are located at all BB&T branches, Alliance Bank, Fidelity Bank in Shelby, Shelby Savings Bank, Truliant Federal Credit Union, Love’s Fish Box, Curves (Shelby), Patrick Senior Center in Kings Mountain and Verizon (Shelby).  Alliance Bank in Shelby is offering free popcorn to anyone who brings in a school supply item for donation.
Monetary donations can be made on WSOC’s website at http://www.wsoctv.com/school-tools/index.html.  Go to “Family” and then “School Tools” and then to “Donate Now” (donate money to your county).  Money donated through this website will be given to Cleveland County.
On Thursday, August 11, students from Cleveland County Schools will be at Office Max and Kmart in Shelby, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to accept your donations, and they invite you to come out and show your support.
On Saturday, August 20th, in partnership with the WSOC School Tools Campaign, the US Postal Service will sponsor a Postal Campaign, giving the community the opportunity to collect supplies and leave them by their mailbox on this date for the mail carriers to collect and deliver to Communities In Schools.
On Friday, August 26th, the Shelby Golden Lions face Ashbrook in their first home appearance of the 2011 season.  Communities In Schools will host a pre-game hot dog supper, with dogs cooked on the Big Green Egg courtesy of Future Energy Corporation.  Football fans and non-football fans alike can enjoy a grilled gourmet dog with fixings such as cheese, chili, onions, slaw, jalapeños, relish and more.  Bring a school supply and get a free ticket for a chance to win a gift certificate to local favorite Taste-T Drive In. Come by Shelby High School Cafeteria and drop off your school supplies for a chance to win.
The School Tools Campaign will run through August 31, 2011.  All supplies collected in Cleveland County will be available to children attending Cleveland County Schools.
